I’m proud to say that MJ is not your average insurance agency, and we’re working hard to keep it that way.

One key reason is our commitment to Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance or ESG initiatives — and before you overlook those three words as just fluff business terms, I hope you’ll give me a chance to explain.

E or Environmental reflects our commitment to being more environmentally conscious, and we’ve looked to some experts for help here, namely the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By adopting these 17 goals — especially those we can impact most directly, like decent work and economic growth, health and wellbeing, gender equality, industry innovation, sustainability and partnerships — we hope to impact both our local and more far-reaching communities. As they say, if you want to change the world, start at home.

S or Social represents, in part, our dedication to MJ’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts, which are designed to create a more welcoming workplace, not only in relation to race, but also all other demographics, including gender and sexual orientation. Ultimately, our intention is to foster an environment that values the diversity of life experiences and perspectives, and encourages innovation in pursuit of this mission both inside and outside the walls of MJ. “Social” also incorporates our philanthropic efforts and work shepherded by the MJ Foundation, like the new Butler Endowment, a risk management and insurance scholarship fund for multicultural students with financial need in Butler University’s Andre B. Lacey School of Business.

When it comes to G or Governance, MJ has established formal expectations for advancing the insurance industry through innovation, as well as processes to elevate our own business ethics and corporate transparency. Another key effort when it comes to corporate governance is our data protection and cybersecurity efforts—which remain one of our top priorities.

Of course, ESG is nothing without action — and our MJ associates have delivered.

In our first-ever ESG Report, you’ll get a clear view of our progress.

ESG — they’re just three little letters, but they’re attached to big expectations!
